Board Chair
March 21, 2022
My term as Board Chair is over on the 23rd of March. It’s so hard to believe that this year has gone by so quickly. I was so nervous and excited a year ago as I embarked on this journey. The NSBA has always been my HAPPY PLACE. I can still hear our first Executive Director Shirley Ryan with her gravelly voice telling us the way it was…
When I took the reins of the NSBA Board I canvassed several Past Chairs to gain insight on how they managed their role. It was most interesting and beneficial to me. Thank you, Past Chairs.
Previous Board Chair James Fraser dealt with the first year of COVID and I the second and hopefully last… James did a fantastic job and I tried to follow in his footsteps. My company, Imagery Photography will begin its 46th year on May 1st. Yes, I was 7 when I started… I have seen pretty much everything. Recession, depression, 20% interest rates to name a few and now Covid. We have always found a way to survive. This is all in my rearview mirror. I prefer to look through the windshield. Our future looks bright, very bright.
Our new team in the NSBA office consists of a bunch of fabulous, intelligent, and diverse individuals. They are very capable and seem to be enjoying the job. They are great at digging right in!
Having a great team is essential to having a great business or organization. I was able to pick the brains of some of our team to see what they were thankful for. They were very impressed with the membership. They mentioned that you, the members were very flexible in adapting to the abundance of changes that we encountered. Some with only a few days and sometimes mere hours’ notice, and you were understanding. I would also like to point out how strong your support of the NSBA was over the past two years. We only cancelled one of the eight major functions. Even though our venue rooms were restricted, you still managed to fill it. I think my favourite was the drive-in Popcorn Event. It was an absolute blast! Thank you, membership, for your adaptive response and being amiable about “being there”. YOU made us better. Of course, to hold events, you need sponsorship. It’s fantastic to see how generous and great our sponsors are. We could not do what we do without you. Thank you, sponsors.
While I am thanking people, I would like to thank my fellow Board Members. They are a very wonderful, receptive group. We have meshed well and worked together. It’s been a fabulous experience. Time-consuming but still worth it. I could not ask for a better Board. Thank you, Board.
My glass is definitely half full. From what I’m hearing, our economy is looking robust, and we are on the cusp of a boom. Good thing, our bank accounts would love to see that.
Lastly, I would like to extend thanks to our Executive Director, Keith Moen. It’s true he serves the board and memberships at our pleasure. Keith is very gifted. Even though he is tugged in many directions, he adapts well. He bleeds NSBA blue. I have always gotten along with Keith, even prior to his 12 years at the helm of NSBA. Thank you, Keith. I love your weekly email insights.
Tracy Arno is taking over as the Chair. She brings with her a tremendous amount of HR experience. We are in good hands with Tracy and the Board. Thank you, Tracy.
Thank you, Members! I am looking forward to what the NSBA does best, member to member and face-to-face networking, usually over a brew. We have survived. It’s time to GROW again. It has been a great honour to serve as your Board Chair!
Treasure Life,
Milton B. Taylor, MPA
