Changing the Pulse of the Province – Murad Al-Katib, featured in NSBA’s mini-documentary series

Saskatoon, SK, June 14, 2017 – With two successful years behind them, the NSBA unveiled the star for the third installment of its annual Popcorn and Entrepreneurship Series, presented by EY. The 3rd annual event will see AGT Food and Ingredients Inc., and its founder and CEO Murad Al-Katib, as the star of the NSBA-produced mini-documentary. The mini-documentary will be premiered at a red carpet gala affair this summer at Remai Arts Centre in Saskatoon.

“Murad Al-Katib has led a phenomenally successful business,” says Keith Moen, Executive Director of the NSBA. “And this past year has seen AGT Food (and Ingredients Inc.) take an absolutely meteoric rise in prominence on not just the local and national stages, but truly at the global level. We could not be more excited about telling his story at this year’s Popcorn and Entrepreneurship Series presented by EY.”

The short documentary, entitled Changing the Pulse of the Province, largely features the success-story of pulse crop distributor Murad Al-Katib. From small town Saskatchewan, to now feeding hundreds of millions across the globe; Al-Katib has won several prestigious awards. In many circumstances, he is the first Canadian to receive some of these dignified awards. His most recent accomplishment includes the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year which he recently accepted on Saturday, June 10, 2017.

“When the NSBA first approached us about making a movie, we weren’t sure if that was something we wanted to do,” admits Murad Al-Katib, President and CEO of AGT Food and Ingredients Inc. “It seemed a little risky putting ourselves out there like that but then I realized that starting this company was a much bigger risk, so that helped to put things in perspective.”

“We also learned that the purpose of this film series is to drive entrepreneurism in Saskatchewan, which is something I’m truly passionate about,” Al-Katib adds. “Then we watched the previous mini-documentaries in the series, which were so well done, and that locked it down for us. We’re in, and we’re both honoured and excited to be a part of the NSBA’s Popcorn and Entrepreneurship Series this year!”
The film’s premiere screening will take place at a gala event on August 30, 2017 at Remai Arts Centre, in Saskatoon. The movie was produced over the past several months by Saskatoon-based Bamboo Shoots, with the NSBA serving as Executive Producer. In addition to the film premiere, the evening also features an Entrepreneurial Star Walk of Fame, a Red Carpet Walk, along with networking and a short program, which includes an interview with Murad Al-Katib by CKOM’s Brent Loucks, who is the MC for the evening.

“We’ve got lots of surprises in store to make this year’s event even bigger and better than last year,” adds Moen. “That’s really saying something, given the reaction from most people last year, which was that we blew them away with every aspect of the evening. It’s going to be a great night.”
Last year’s event sold out and organizers are expecting demand to be even higher this time around. Tickets go on sale immediately and can be purchased through the NSBA office, or online at www.nsbasask.com. Be sure to get your tickets soon, as this event has limited tickets available.
